Stirling

Close by you will find Fishing, Horse riding, Golf, Forest drives, Safari Park, Steamer trips on Loch Katrine on the Steamship "Sir Walter Scott".

You can enjoy a visit to Inchmahome island on the Lake of Mentieth, where you will find the remains of a priory where five year old Mary Queen of Scots stayed for a short time. The ten minute sail across the only "lake" in Scotland (the others are all referred to as "lochs") is particularly delightful.

Travelling north you can visit the country of Rob Roy MacGregor - made famous in the novel by Sir Walter Scott and, much more recently, a spectacular film. Visiting Rod Roy's grave in the village of Balquidder will take you to the Braes of Balquidder along the shore of Loch Voil - just one of many spectacular drives in magnificent scenery.

We are 15 minutes from the historic town of Stirling with its imposing Castle and the Wallace Monument and we are just one hour from the city of Edinburgh, with its many historic buildings.

ROB ROY COUNTRY

Rob Roy MacGregor is famous in Scottish folklore as a lovable rogue. On the one hand he was a respected Highland cattle dealer and land owner and, on the other, a cattle-raider and blackmailer. One of his many exploits inadvertently led him into trouble with the powerful Duke of Montrose, an ally of the government.

Rob Roy was outlawed in 1713 and spent seven years evading the authorities. His many raids on the wealthy Duke's properties were a source of amusement to all but the Duke himself. Talk of his exploits was widespread and Rob Roy became a legend in his own time. He eventually settled down to live a long and prosperous life in Balquhidder - no doubt enjoying the same peace and tranquillity of the glens that we can still enjoy today.
